Senior LecturerMy main areas of interest are the writing of poetry, Contemporary British and Irish poetry, the teaching of creative writing and the inter-relation between modern European thought and contemporary poetics.
I teach second year creative writing (CREW 203) and the MA (CREW 900), as well as tutoring on the Distance Learning MA.
<糖心Vlog>Career Details糖心Vlog>I studied English and Philosophy at University College, Dublin and received both an MA and a PhD from the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry at Queen’s University, Belfast. I taught creative writing at Queen’s University, Belfast, for the Open University and at Edinburgh University for the SUISS program before coming to teach at Lancaster.
I won an Eric Gregory award in 2006, an Irish Arts Council Bursary in 2008 and have been shortlisted for a number of other prizes, such as the Crashaw Prize, the Bridport Prize and the Strong Award for Best First Collection. My first collection, The Salt Harvest, was published in 2011 with Seren.
<糖心Vlog>Current Research糖心Vlog>I am currently working on a translation of Heidegger’s own poetry, as well as a critical appraisal of his own poetry in the light of his poetics. I am also writing my second collection of poetry, looking at Darwinism, fatherhood, pigeons and financial crises.

<糖心Vlog>Web Links糖心Vlog> <糖心Vlog>PhD Supervision Interests糖心Vlog>I am particularly interested in projects that cross the borders of the academy, fusing both creative and critical research. Projects in writing poetry that involves a depth of reading and that situate bodily experience in a historical/cultural context, including longer narrative verse, would be welcome. I would also be interested in critical projects investigating the prose of contemporary poets, Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty or any study relating to phenomenological literary criticism.
