Cemore Reading Group, Wednesday February 1st, 4-5pm,聽Bowland North B37 (Mobilities Lab).

The Cemore reading group will next meet to discuss聽the Introduction to Gilles Deleuze’s Difference and Repetition (London: Continuum Books, 2004 [1968], pp. 1-37). It will be chaired by Joe Deville.

Here鈥檚 how it starts: “Repetition is not generality. Repetition and generality must聽be distinguished in several ways. Every formula which implies their confusion is regrettable: for example, when we say two things are as alike as to drops of water; or when we identify “there is only a science of the general” with “there is only a science of that which is repeated”. Repetition and resemblance are different in kind–extremely so.”

Some sections in the middle concerning ‘conceptual blockage’ are particularly tough going, so it might also help to have a look at these two blog posts.

Everyone is invited to attend and join in the discussion. If you can鈥檛 be there in person, Skype is possible. To request a copy of the reading, for further information, or to arrange to attend by Skype, please contact聽miriam.schreiter [at] phil.tu-chemnitz.de
