This week’s Cemore reading group meandered to Deleuze’s聽Difference and Repetition,聽because Baudrillard (last reading) made us curious about the symbolic as an act of exchange. We found Deleuze聽‘therapeutic’ and not amenable to an instrumental method or epistemology. His聽non-representation respecification of repetition reveals realities in flux in ways that echo聽Bergson, Simmel’s rainbow, ideas of performativity in Goffman and Butler, intra-action in Barad, as well as commitments to ‘stay with the trouble’ (Haraway) and ‘affirmative critique (Baridotti) – vocabularies that are slightly less cryptic, perhaps just to (some of) us. Questions arising around how to understand聽mass production and its transformations (e.g. through 3D printing and maker culture) differently through Deleuze’s repetition made us ‘deleuzed’, in a good way. 聽We’re now going to read something on mass production and then Ranciere’s ways of reconfiguring 鈥榯he map of the sensible鈥.
