I’ve returned inspired from the聽Mobile Cultures of Disaster Conference,聽22 March – 24 March 2017 at the University of South Australia in Adelaide. Supported by the聽Japan Foundation, the Hawke Research Institute at the University of South Australia, the School of Sociology at Kwansei Gakuin University, and the College of Sociology at Rikkyo University, Anthony Elliott and Eric Hsu brought together a collection of scholars, policy-makers, artists and practitioners working on disaster mobilities. Talks ranged from explorations of disaster or聽Dark heritage tourism (Honggang Xu, Sun Yat-sen University, China)聽to reports of artistic projects of Making Sense of Disaster聽and resilience (Angharad Wynne-Jones, Arst House; Jen Rae, Melbourne University; Marnie Badham, RMIT) to a long duree perspective on the Lost Decades: Disasters, Recessions and Political Crises in Japan and Global Society聽(Shunya Yoshimi, Tokyo University).
