How to make IT good?
Developing digital ethics as an engine for innovation
Smart Transport, smart cities, smart sustainability endeavours put great trust in data and technology. 聽However, to realise the potential of big data and IT effectively and responsibly, we must design, use, and govern IT research and innovation with more respect for human rights. This need is accentuated in the field of disaster management since it is during crises that the 鈥渄isruptive鈥 momentum of data can becomes stark; both enabling a richer operational picture with potentially life-saving effects, and raising concerns over social sorting and splintering, privacy, and false positives. In this presentation I reflect upon a digital ethics design research project, where production of a community knowledge exchange platform聽聽has generated momentum for collaborative research and innovation in disaster risk management. I will explore results in聽relation to efforts of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in transport and mobilities.
