Students of the environment at Lancaster have always been a step ahead. It was here that the world’s first department of Environmental Science was established, and it was here too that some of the first students anywhere across the globe were able to graduate with a full degree in Ecology.

Rothamsted Research has always led from the front. It was here, following our establishment in 1843, that the foundations for modern scientific agriculture were laid and that the principles of crop nutrition were first developed.
