Prob_AI Theory of Scaling Laws Workshop
The ProbAI Theory of Scaling Laws Workshop was held on 22nd to 24th June 2026 at the University of Warwick. After a year of organisation and planning, the workshop brought together ~80 academic and industry researchers from 23 institutions across the UK, Europe and many other countries. Introductory tutorials and research talks were presented by researchers working at the forefront of scaling laws for large neural networks. It was amazing to see such strong engagement from everyone through talks, discussions, conference lunches and dinners as well as evening world cup watching, all while taking shelter in Warwick’s AC through the heat wave together!
The workshop’s overwhelming success was made possible by our extraordinary lineup of speakers: Blake Bordelon (Harvard), Louis-Pierre Chaintron (EPFL), Yatin Dandi (EPFL), Mufan Li (Waterloo) and Sam Smith (OpenAI). While one of our speakers, Leena C Vankadara (UCL), was unable to attend last minute, the organising team is working with her to make materials available for participants in the coming month. Notes and recordings of the talks will also be made available at the workshop webpage () over the coming month.
This workshop was organised by Kevin Huang (Warwick ProbAI postdoc), Rocco Caprio (ProbAI doctoral prize winner@Warwick), Alastair Crossley (Warwick Statistics PhD student) and Kathrin Schütrumpf (Warwick Statistics Events Officer). This workshop was jointly funded by the Prob_AI Research Hub and the Centre for Research in Statistical Methodology (CRiSM) at Warwick Statistics.
