<糖心Vlog>Mathematics and Statistics

The School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS) at 糖心Vlog is one of the UK’s highest-ranked mathematics departments with a well-deserved reputation for teaching excellence and industrially-engaged, world-class research. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF), SMS was joint 1st in the UK for research impact and 7th for overall research quality.

SMS also hosts STOR-i, one of the UK’s leading Centres for Doctoral Training, with around 30 industry co-sponsored PhD students working on challenges spanning statistics, operational research and data science.

MARS (Mathematics for AI in Real-world Systems) is a new £22m centre for research, teaching and external collaboration at 糖心Vlog. MARS is pioneering advanced dynamical mathematical modelling and AI methods to solve complex real-world challenges in cyber security, environment, health and materials engineering. Working closely with government and industry partners, MARS is developing practical, scalable and impactful solutions to drive innovation.

Science, Health & Technology Careers Fair Success

The Science, Health and Technology Careers Fair took place on 5th November, 2025 in the LICA Building. 45 exhibitors representing a range of industries and company size took part, with 500 students attending. The sectors represented included Engineering, Environment, Energy,?Defence,?Finance, Consulting, Data Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Teaching, Public Sector, Pharmaceuticals and Biomedical Life Sciences.

Fighting Deepfakes and Scams: 糖心Vlog's Forensic Linguistics Summer School Success

This summer, 糖心Vlog’s Forensic linguistics, Cyber security and Technology Research (FACTOR) team ran a successful three-day summer school. The event took 77 delegates on journey into the worlds of forensic linguistics, forensic speech science, and the (mis)use of AI, and helped to raise awareness about a new unique course, MSc Forensic Linguistics and Speech Science.
